After dawn service on a lazy monday morning, I pop by Carlton Eating House ( by the Esso Gas station, along Tg Katong Rd and Still road) to have a good meal of Roast Pork WanTan noodle. At 3SGD per plate, it offers unbeatable value. The owner gave me a huge slab of roast pork. YUM YUM YUM. which was crispy and having a good bite + taste. Just enought saltiness and juiciness. The noodle was very QQ and springy/fresh. To top it off, there is a bowl of soup with 3 wantans to go along your meal. Fantastic!!! It appears this Carlton Eating House roast pork/roast duck stall is extremely popular with tons of pll packing it to the brim every morning and lunch hour. Go and check it out!

Carlton Eating House Roast Pork Noodle

Sumo House@Clementi Central
Demona: Which "Haik! Arigato!" food place will suit the pockets of two poor souls: One with tough working conditions in this place coming from a place with poor exchange rates, another who had a sudden horrific end to a career due to a mad, erratic employer ?SUMOOOOOOOOO.. house!
First strike! : Free flow of hot green tea. Whoa-lah!
We ordered this cold soy sauce tofu as our appetizer. The tofu was a bit too rough and rubbery for me. Gave me the impression that it was cut out from the SGD 1 square piece of tofu that you find in NTUC/ Cold Storage chilled area. Those who are not die-hard fans of this dish, can make it a pass. SGD 1.90.
Demona: We ordered fish cutlets too. These breaded crumb deep fried cutlets were average. The fish fillets were not very fresh, and from its taste, I could tell that the oil wasn't too fresh either. But other than that... for the price that we're paying, no qualms about it! As long as the "what you pay is what you get" factor is applied, we totally understand it. However, if it's an expensive dish, and this was the quality that we got....... I'll definitely post a different story altogether.Strike two! SGD 2.90.
Demona: We also ordered a chicken cutlet bento set. SGSD 4.90. It came with fried rice, which had no Japanese feel to it at all.... it was like any other chinese fried rice. Nevertheless, its taste was quite yummy-fying! Dogma mopped it up squeaky clean. The side dishes were average as well, but we weren't complaining. The most horrible part about the bento set were the orange slices. The oranges were so dried up... we were quite certain that they may be rejected stocks from NTUC.
Demona: The chicken cutlet slices were quite enjoyable too. Again, we did keep in mind that anything deep fried, with some coated bread crumbs can't go too wrong.
Verdict: So... how much did we pay for this meal? Jeng jeng jeng jeng.......SGD 11. For a lower grade Japanese food, but yet succeeded in giving its patrons the Arigato feel! Definitely a worthy experience without setting fire on your red notes.
So guys... when your finances are running low.. but your tongue still yearns for some elite food... do consider Sumo! But please do not forget : you pay what you get. :)
La Dame De Malescot 2003
Got this bottle free from the big boss SH. I remembered tasting the 2002 La Dame De Malescot (2nd wine of Malescot) together with the 1988/98/2002 Malescot and it was very impressive for its freshness and drinkability, but some it does lack the acid and midpalate compared to the Malescot first wine. Upon opening the La Dame de Malescot 2003, the wine is dense and big and carry tons of tight fruits/cassis and a big vanilla oak nose. Demona enjoyed this very much and keep on slurpping on it. On the second day, the tightness resolved and reveals more coffee note and floral note. Still tight and needs a few more year to reveal its true potential but very very good value for money@50SGD per bottle. Sweep them up!
Chitato Snacks from Indonesia
We bought this from our trip to Bali at the airport just before we took our flight back to KL. It was shocking to see that prices escalate more than 3X between the shops inside/outside the airport. and it appears the shops furthest away from the airport entrance is the cheapest among the lot.Back to the Chitato Supreme cheese flavour potato chips@9000 rupiah. The taste is too starchy and lacking in any real cheese taste. infact, it was too starchy we found it hard to finish the small pack between 2 of us.
Yuck...
Bosses Restaurant + Hagen Daz @ Vivocity
Nor, Eri, V, and us had a nice dinner at Bosses Restaurant in Vivocity during the matching making session between V and Eri. The food is fine but most important of all, its free! More match making dinner to come!
However, due to the strictly no picture taking policy in the Bosses restaurant, the above Walnut appetiser is the only food we managed to take. Shiny glistening walnut coated with sesame + honey. Yummy. Demona finish 2 plates of them before our guests arrived. It cost a whopping $3-4 per plate. In summary, the dishes at Bosses were so so, but we ordered a full crispy duck which was quite a dissapointment. The duck was crispy but lacking of any flavour and character. yucks.
Next we were off to the Haagen Dazs dessert
We ordered the Earthquake@50SGD which consist of 6 flavours of ice creams, some fruits + a stupid bubbling and foaming dry iced water bowl that just do no good. The ice cream scoops were tiny and we were left wanting for more.Green Tea: so so
Vanilla Caramel: nice! very thick vanilla flavour lifted by the caramel sweetness
Chocolate: usual
Mango: intense mango flavour
Strawberry cheesecake: Good
