Dimsum brunch@Kamboat, Shawhouse

Demona: "Notti" Dogma was planning to go for a long wine tasting session despite the fact that we are back into square one long distance relationship = time is little = time is crucial = time is precious = still want to run off to drink wine?????. In order to pacify me, he had to buy me... CHAR SIEW PAOS! For this CSP sucker face queen, myself.

We decided to have dimsum nearby my place, at Shawhouse's Kamboat.

Demona: Jeng jeng jeng jeng! It sure was easy to please a girl who loves to glutton herself out! Sadly, the CSPs were oversteamed, causing the pao to be damp and soggy. The meat ingredients were so so.. overall, the paos were disappointing.

Demona: The har kaus were the biggest turn off in dim sum brunch session. The prawns had some wierd funky chemical-like taste in them (maybe oversoaked in the bicarbonates). After one bite, I could not take the second bite no more. Dogma finished the rest of them. He was quite alright with the taste of the har kaus.... ehehehe.. Dogma constantly becomes my foodie dustbin. :P

Demona: The XO fried carrot cake was only so so. Honestly, I couldn't even taste the XO at all. Maybe I took the wrong square piece :/ They were also very oily. Arteries clogging up!

Demona: The egg tarts weren't too bad. It probably was the winner for the day. The pastry layer was quite flaky, sweet, crunchy. The egg layer was also smooth, soft, with a hint of sweetness. The tarts were very small although they looked fairly big from the photo.

Verdict: Our last experience here was actually good. Totally opposite from what we were getting this time around. Our conclusion was: last trip, we came late and the lunch crowd had already left. This trip, we came on a brunch, on a Sunday. The restaurant was packed to the brim. Maybe the two-armed chefs were trying to do an eight armed octopus job... the quality may have been comprimised.

We probably will aim Marina's Kamboat branch if we want to give Kamboat another try again. 30% promotion discount! And our visits there had not disappoint us too!

Solea Chips Garlic Flavour

The Solea Cracked Pepper and Sea Salt is much better, providing a interesting note of saltish bite, with spicy pepper.. The garlic flavour was quite a let down. Too bland, and flat....
bleachh.

Poggio Al Sole Seraselva 1998

1998 Poggio al Sole Seraselva Toscana IGT

A Cab-Merlot Blend from Tuscany. I had bought this direct from Italy and pop this over a simple saturday nite at Demona's pad....
Open up with some dusty black fruit note, with some chalky oak cherry perfume. Tasted more of the tertiary aroma of wood, leather, earth and the fruit has clearly faded. After airing for 45 minutes, the body could not hold up and the whole wine felt disjointed with hollowness in the palate all round. It went down hill from then. Feed it upon the basin the second day

Sari Indo@Upper Thomson Road

Anything spicy would have snatched Demona's soul. While passing by Upper Thomson Road scourging for food, we saw this little Indon Nasi Padang stall very much alike to Warung M Nasir@ Killiney Road. We decided to give it a try and Demona choosed a few dishes for the nite.

Dish 1: Beef Rendang:
The defacto bench mark for any nasi padang stall. Eventhou the beef was tender, the spices were packed with some oomph, however, it is lacking in something in the "surprise" department. Probably the dish could use more of some chopped up lemon grass, close pepper or something different. A good effort but not exciting one.

The second dish is again, is a killer combo to snatch Demona's soul: Spiced up Fried Brinjal. This dish is pretty tasty albeit on a slightly oily side. The brinjal was well fried and mixed iwth some indo sambal spices. However, it could be better by giving the brinjal some extra wok hei like the Cafe Teduh@Bali Island.
This dish was a let down. Just typical fried beans. Nothing much to shout about.

Overall, Sari Indo at Upper Thomson road (Just pass the Shell station and very near to the Barnsburry/Nam Kee Chicken Rice/Miss Clarity) was a so so stall. Not bad but nothing impresive about them.

Heritage Northern Indian Cuisine Revisited

Demona was so satisfied with the first visit to Heritage that we went back there on my recent trip back to singapore. This time we brought A and S along to slurp down Creamy spiced up northern Indian Cuisines.... Not to be missed is definitely the Tandoori Chicken paired with a ultra tangy homemade mustard with crushed black pepper. Super tangy. The tandoori chicken was charred on the outside yet succulent in the inside. the marinade was packing much ooomph as well. TOP One!Next up is the special dish of Heritage: JackFruit Curry. I had never liked Jackfruit unlike Demona, but this dish rocks. THe chef actually uses the white inner "cushion" of hte fruit that holds the jackfruit seed that we eat. It was lighte fried before being tossed in to the curry. Sligtly sweet and not very spicy. Good!
By this time i was sweating rain, and Demona ordered the curry lamb. Very Very small portions at 16bucks. However, the sauce was packing a good spicy punch (ultra creamy as well) Perfect to go with the steamed BASMATI RIce we ordered.
Fluffy Basmati Rice, so soft, so Fragrant!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH blisss.

The total bills comes up to about 60 after 15% UOB Card Discount. Totally enjoyable.
I'll be back for MORE!
