A kind hearted soul saves a dog's life

Referring to the previous post on LaoHeong, where by my friend tapao-ed the bone of the pork knuckle to feed the stray dog which lives in his neighbourhood. Here are the picts....

When my friend found it, its neck was bruised, bleeding and unimaginably thin. Some stupid owner must have tortured it and chained it to die. Grrr!

By the look of the dog, no one would tink that it could survive. Thankfully, it met my friend who has an extremely kind heart to constantly pack food for the dog.

Even after months eating, the dog still looked extremely thin. According to my friend, it recognizes his car and would come nearby his home around 5-7 pm. If my friend does not show up within that time period, it would move on and search for food to survive elsewhere. Sometimes my friend gives it dog food (some from his Retriever's stocks) but being a dog living to survive each day, its stomach could not digest just dog food but require leftovers like bones and rice.

Thanks to my friend, the stray dog now looks a lot healthier! This dog's life has changed thanks to one kind soul.

I'm sure this doggie enjoyed the gigantic pork knuckle bone very much! :) As much as we enjoyed the meat at Lao Heong.

Dog owners out there, if you do not have the heart to take care of a pet, regardless what animal it may be, please do not even bother buying or adopting one. It sickens me to hear stories of owners discarding their pets halfway through or owners throwing newborn pups by the roadside when their own dogs get pregnant. These animals have a beating heart, and have emotions too.

Junkfood@Incheon International Airport, Seoul

Time to bid Korea goodbye. It was a fruitful 10 day journey. Spiritually blessed.. and physically too! Phew. We arrived at the airport few hours earlier than needed, thus had plenty of time to kill.
One last bite on a local ice cream cone. Walls Cornetto still rawked. What I really liked about the airport was that most of the goods sold here were not priced higher than normal. Unlike our nice-to-look-at but inconvenient KLIA, FnB items here cost a good 20-30% higher than normal. Rubbish! Those shopaholics who insist that they have not bought enough, can still do a final round of shopping in Incheon, without having to feel like they are ripped off. In KLIA, you will feel otherwise.
Eating in a local MCD has always been something habitual for me. Especially, trying out items that are not sold in Malaysia. This was a double beef patty with a slice of pork bacon burger, drizzled over with BBQ sauce. If my big toes would bend 90 degrees from other toes, like my thumb and fingers, I'd do 4 thumbs-toes up!
The taste of the fries differed also. I strongly suspect it was due to the pork frying in the oil. They had a moderate hint of lard taste. SINFUL.

After a filling MCD meal, we still had 3 hours to kill before having to check-in the boarding area. We found a spa at B1, and decided to take an expensive and long shower for Rm45, and it was totally worth it! It takes a while getting used to not being embarrassed of being naked around others.

I grabbed all the free samples given from Skinfood purchases. DYI facial while soaking naked in the hot tub, with lady strangers. I'd thought that I would be a little too shy for comfort but after soaking for a while, I forgotten how quickly I started to enjoy myself chilling out by the hot waters, cold waters, sauna, and then hot waters again.

Repeated this: 10 times.

It felt really good just lying down, resting and not thinking of anything. They even provided us loose clothes to change into. You can laze in the common living room area with cozy couches and TV for a short nap, read a book, have a drink. We came out, feeling like a clean sheet of linen. Happy and clean.

The only slack part about the airport was that, most places are closed after 9 pm. We started feeling hungry again after the spa experience, but most shops were closed. The only shop that was packed with patrons was a bar. All drinking to sleep when they board the plane. We bought a bottle of soju, and ate the chips that we bought to tapao back home. This pack of chips cost only abour RM2-3, humble, crunchy, salty. Pretty enjoyable. They started selling these in Korean marts at Hartamas now, for RM6-7. Phew.

Well.. one pack ain't enough for few tummies. We opened another pack, and this one was my favourite. Spicy, crunchy, delicious and for some reason, the picture of the sunflower made me feel that the chips was slightly healthier than normal chips. Thumbs up!

They also sell these in the Korean marts in Hartamas now. Yeah, for double the price too.

Goodbye PyungKang-Cheil, goodbye Sr Pastor Abraham Park, goodbye Seoul, goodbye great foodie. We will be back, hopefully May/October this year!

Home blended apricot peach smoothie

With both special occasions near by one another (Christmas and New Year), needless to say, EVERYONE is overindulging. Myself, a sinner also.

Excess spicy food, excess chilli, excess alchohol, excess junk food/chips, excess meat, under-excess water = constipation.

I decided to blend my own smoothie hoping to help me in my bowels.

Bought some apricot yoghurt, milk, peaches and bbbbbllllleeeennndddddddddddddd into one delicious smoothie :)

So much more delicious and fruitful than the ones you have from the juice bars. And oh yeah, a lot more cheaper too!

But did it help me clear my bowels? No...... but something else did. In a horrible, nasty, suffering way (To be continued....)

Jam fight!@Demona's home

Demona: Tonight's dinner was one of those...." bored-hungry but do not know what to eat-too lazy to buy or cook food-i'm too tired-i'm still broke" dinners.

Let's settle this with......... good olde' carbs!

A healthy loaf of wholemeal bread and a good spread to go along with.

So happens... I've got two types of jam on hand.

Demona: Looks like there'll be war here tonight! Blood shed will smear the night!

Jam warrior 1:
Demona: I got this cute lil' bottle of jam from White Bait and Kale, when I attended one of their baking classes (Which was so much fun! And my.. my.. I learnt a kick-ass gingerbread spiced cake from there). This jam, along with a gingerbread man cookie was WB&K's door gift.

Jam warrior 1:
"You can taste my powerful squashed, juicy sweet blueberry bits! "
"Feel the fire, feel the heat, from my silent weapon.. port!"

Jam warrior 2:

Demona: Jams ain't cheap in Malaysia. The really good ones are dressed with shiny, golden price tags. The horrible taste, almost unedible ones are dirt cheap.. but yeah, one teaspoonful and you can't go on no more. Then, there are those in-between ones, which are not bad.. but you won't get the good kick from them either.

This was my first time buying Tamara, costing almost RM 7.

Jam warrior 2:

"Although my appearance may seem a lil' watery..look closely, and you could see the squashed berries, cherries and strawberries in me!"
"Look at my size... you're like an ant to me!"

Demona: Who wins the war?

............................................

jeng jeng jeng jeng.

TAMARA!!!!!
Despite being a bit watery, the sweetness was just nice, plus you could still chew on lil' bits and pieces of the fruits. Just like what it was mentioned on the bottle. Something something German.. with a big 50% 'de fruits'. I'm assuming it meant 50% more fruits in it.

The posh looking blueberry port jam, was a major disappointment for me. Although its packaging gave it an impression of a high end brand of a jam, its taste spoke otherwise. I couldn't taste much of the berries flavour and the port was overwhelming the whole package. Its heat killed the fruit flavour. It was as if, I poured port itself on my bread. I tried stirring the jam in the bottle, wondering if the sweetness was at the bottom, but no difference was made.

All in all......

So I guess, in-between jams rock too!

Demona ponders....

Demona: As baking works well as a great therapeutic method for me, recently, my mind has been hit by all corners of ideas, on what's cool to bake, how do I improve on the few recipes I've done and enjoyed savouring every bit of 'em, and for the past few days.. I've been surfing the net, reading blogs, but have not come to a conclusion on what cake I want to bake, and blow the candles off on my coming quarter century birthday.

If you look at it another way, it may seem a little (haha maybe quite) pathetic that you bake your own birthday cake, rather than having people buying a cake with a rip-off price tag from some franchised bakery.... but I am actually quite excited over the idea of baking my own one for the first time this year.

I'll be 25 in a couple of days time. A quarter century years old. Sounds dramatic, haha. But yeah, time flies. I guess we probably say the same every 16th, 18th, 21st, 25th, and 30th, 40th, 50th birthday and so forth.

While driving back home today along the ECP expressway, my mind wandered off. Suddenly, everything surrounding me seemed disconnected from me. A wise man, with stedfast faith taught us today that people still dwell and harp on worldly things that they've forgotten to real meaning of living. We should live as if we only have a few more months to live. It got me thinking... had I been the same too?

I haven't been on my best lately, definitely jeapordised some tummy growling activities, hehehe. Many things had been changing so quickly at one go, I must admit that my level of perserverence sometimes fall down when uncertainties occur. I realise, however glamourous, simple, challenging, rich, poor, difficult life can be, people change, things change, the surroundings change, but all is good if you are happy, and leave the rest to God.

Work is temporary, money is temporary, worldly things are temporary, what is most important is family and people whom you love and care.

I need to find my life's happiness. For this coming quarter century mark, I think I can make do with a little sparks of happiness from:

1) I am still in good health.
2) my own made birthday cake!
3) celebrating it with my best-est girl friend who shares this special day with me.
4) knowing that my family and close friends are all in good health and I'll continue to pray for them everyday.
5) Dogma is adapting and having good progress at his work in KL. It is challenging for us, sumtimes frustration really kicks in... but if he needs to take this step, I will support him morally as I am away.

WAIT! Hmmmmmm... Demona's being emo here. Back to cakie wakies! What cake am I going to bake?

Suggestions!

Bali spells beauty, warmth, affection.. love

Demona: These are some un-foodie pictures that we took during our trip to Bali. I can't help but to share these beautiful pictures with you guys!

Demona: The gorgeous, balinese themed entrance into our cozy little 4 day home stay.

Demona: A nice porch area for a drink, but we ended up drinking inside the room itself.... due to the mosquitoes from the plants coming out in the late evenings and nights.

Demona: A spectacular view of the sun rising in front of our eyes. We almost missed it because we woke up 30 minutes later than planned. Although, we were stoning like no one's business... the glowing sun rays were worth all of it!

Demona: The killing scene after math. What was left of the "babi guleng" after being "guleng-ed" for hours and hours, roasting to perfection! A boney sight of the piglet's jaw. Poooor piggie ! :(

Demona: Another intricate, detailed, beautifully carved statue as part of the Balinese theme for the Beach Bali hotel.

Demona: Buddha statue with a dimly lit marmalade coloured bulb light in the gardens of our hotel.

Demona: Beautiful view of the restaurant at night.

Demona: Cheap dinner, with a spectacular view to eat with. Worth every penny! Kinda' romantic, I must say.

Demona: Our hotel!

Demona: The view of Sanur beach at night. Romantic, eh?

Demona: Kuta beach by day, the sound of the waves were like loud "THUMPS"! Beautiful. Flooded with caucasians, mostly testing their abilities to ride with the waves.

Demona: Another closer view of Kuta beach.

Demona: Baby turtles! Kept safely in a small secluded area, to prevent any danger from happening to them! Apparently, baby turtles are a sought after delicacy here :( Nooooooooo.... they're too cutey to be eaten!

Demona: Great band, they were playing good olde' rock ballads, and some love songs. Just the kinda' tunes you would want to hear in a place as beautiful as this. I could see all the love birds sitting on the steps in front of the band going all " awhhhhhhhhhhh"

FREE RAJA PETRA!!!!

Dear Readers,
This blog was never meant to be political.

However, the drastic turn of events back home has left us no choice but to voice our dissatisfaction towards the current BN led Malaysian Government.

Mr Raja Petra (of www.malaysia-today.net) has been charged under a politically motivated seditious act for posting an article on his website. The article allegedly implied that Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife of being involved in the killing of a young Mongolian woman.

Businessman Syed Akbar Ali was also charged under a politically motivated seditious act for posting a comment on www.malaysia-today.net.

This corrupt and self serving government will never succeed in stopping the voice of the people while trying so hard to hang on to its power.

True Justice will Prevail.
FREE RAJA PETRA KAMARUDIN!

Things you could do:
1) Log on to Malaysia Today to follow the latest development
2) Email to the Royal Police of Malaysia to voice your opinion at rmp@rmp.gov.my
3) Remember this and vote out BN

Excessive Calories - the nemesis of modern mankind.
Life is too short to miss out on those deliciously tempting food.
Yet Life will be much shorter if you eat excessively.
Think, before you eat.
Eat Responsibly!

-a community message brought to you by Food Venturas!

Demona and I did a 6km walk from Clementi to Holland Village and back under the scorching sun to Provence Bakery for breakfast. This is the only way out for preventing the evil calories from building up in our Vessels from previous nites of Chips Binging and the heavy breakfast.

It was tough and painful, but we have to endure. For great pain comes with great reward---HEALTH

En route back to Clementi, Demona spotted this poor lil chap that probably had starved to death under the scorching sun when it's tail was stuck in the street lamp post. It died a painful death....

Let us pray for lil lizzy, for she may be in peace now.

Annual Cheng Beng Festival@Taiping

Demona: It's been two years since I attended the last Cheng Beng prayers. I am stunned over how innovative the people who made these praying things have become. So much have changed, only in two years. One thing that hasn't changed, was the serene, peaceful, calm atmosphere Cheng Beng created. Somehow rather, it was soothing to see people returning to their elder's graves to pray.

Demona: The regular food used for prayers. Apparently, there are rules where by only certain food can be placed on top and below. My mom and my aunt (uncle's wife) are the only ones in my family who still know all these details. Personally speaking, I am afraid to say that I believe this tradition may possibly disappear in the near future.

Demona: I only know of sticking coloured papers on my great grandparents' grave. This was the first time that I saw snipped bits of shining colourful papers to be sprinkled all over the grave. According to YY, these snippits were SOOOOOO.. last few years news. Gosh, I am totally outdated.

Demona: The creation of paper clothings, money and jewellery get more and more funky, creative and innovative as the years go by. Next time around, space suits maybe?

Demona: It took us FOREVER, to get the two coins to have a head and tail each. I'm guessing, great grandpa and great grandma were too engrossed watching my dad, aunt and uncle playing this old card game (which was to be burnt along for them too).

Demona: KIM TOON KIM TOON! (gold bars gold bars!) PEK KIM TOON PEK KIM TOON!(white gold bar white gold bar!)

Demona: Will I be able to own this much in future?

Demona: XL wallet and watch for grandma? Gosh, she is even more stylish than I am. All that I am carrying is this huge wallet Dogma bought me for my 1st Birthday and a brandless black leather bag. Handphone for her too? How advance has the world below us become?

Demona: All the luxuries were burnt for the elders to receive them. The heat was excruciatingly hot! I was wondering, how will they be able to get hold of all of these things once they were completely burnt into ashes. (great grandpa with a huge ass bag trying to make sure everything that falls into the bag? Sounds pretty funny)

Demona: My grandpa. The kind soul who gave his wife and his and her siblings these three beautiful graves to rest in when they depart from this world.

Demona: Pokok Assam Market's Siohhh Bakkkk! (roast pork). Raw, authentic, home town style. Savoury, salty, some parts were lean, some parts fatty, but finger licking good! Unbelievably good.....

Demona is crippled

Hi readers!

Really sorry about being out of action for some time and Dogma has been going solo on the food blogging.

I left the camera batteries and charger back in Taiping. GGGGRRRRRRROANS. My colleagues will be heading up north to work this week, I told them to drop by my house to pick the batteries up.

Hopefully by next week, I'll be able to start posting again! There are some really great eateries with gorgeous pictures of food which I took on my previous trip up to Perak. Can't wait to show you guys!

Dogma has another lone ranger week to go.

Till then, keep reading!

Cool picts between TG sessions

Demona: A super duper antique cashier machine which Monarch cafe, St Kilda, still uses for its daily operation today. Ka-CHING!

Demona: St Kilda is a haven for dog lovers. I have never seen so many people walking their dogs in one particular area before. Some were rare, expensive breed of dogs too. This lady was sitting down with her fully grown Great Dane. HUGEEEEEEEEE dog.

Demona: My shoes got "eaten" by the waves of the Great Ocean. I had to dry them using this tiny heater in one of the backpacker's inn that we stayed.

Demona: Cool, grunge, rock-like crib, The Coffee Palace Backpacker's, St. Kilda. This place was filled with posters, flyers, brochures of local and international indie rock, grunge, heavy metal bands.

Demona: Stuffing ourselves with a slice of chocolate cake from Foster's Cafe into our already stuffed tummies. A and I ended up finishing most of it. Girls = Sugar. The chocolate cake was a little dry. The manager that night, was also idiotic. He yelled at his staff, and gave dagger stares at Dogma for bringing in a half emptied mineral water bottle. Ambience was lovely, though.

Demona: A bamboo pewter bracelet from Royal Selangor. Zodiac silver bracelet, dropped 3 times at odd places (roadside, office, day bed), and yet it found its way back to me. Every girl in my family has one. Sentimental values to me.

Demona: Birthday present from LY. A beautiful pict taken by Dogma.

Demona: The gigantic candle on our dinner table at Moussandra.

Demona: GRRRRRRRRRR. We were fooling around with the costumes sold during Halloween in a shopping mall. Dogmakenstein.

Demona: My new pair of tennis shoes! Only 79 sgd! You can't buy a pair of shoes for nuts with RM 79. SIGH.
