Warung M Nasir Revisit

After a good breakfast at Good Morning Nanyang Cafe, Demona and I were craving for some savoury spicy kick ass meat. We begin out hunt and the taste of blood brought us to Warung M Nasir in Killiney Rd. While i was parking my Jazzy illegally by the road, Demona rush out and went in to grab a FengShui seat. She knew i would pick her favourite dishes.

Here is what we had:
1) Beef Rendang: Same spiciness, same tenderness. Chunks of beef melting in your mouth while my nose started raining (perspiring). You could never go wrong with this!
2) Curry Squid: Tender bouncy squid jumping for joy when you fork them. Good spice, no fishy smell. Delicious.
3) Omellete: Nothing spectacular yet nothing bad about it.

Total bill $5.80. Reasonable.

Go for the kill at Warung M Nasir today!

Good Morning Nanyang Cafe@Chinatown

Demona: Dogma knows I am an adoring fan of toast bread and coffee, and I am always eager to venture new, interesting toast bread/coffee places. This is a great way to kick start the day, a light meal with some creamy sugary goodness, aromatic dose of caffeine, reading the headlines for the day. Somehow rather, all these aspects combined together spells FEEL-GOOD.

Dogma introduced me to a new place today. He drove past the beautifully decorated vibrant coloured lanes of Chinatown, and parked inside Chinatown Point. He led me to this cafe, called Good Morning Nanyang. The bright orange colour painted walls with a gigantic "GOOD MORNING" sign, followed simultaneously by the strong buttery toast smell filling our nostrils definitely drew open our sleepy eyes.

Demona: We ordered a toast bread+eggs+coffee set to share. Dogma made a good move by requesting for our coffee to be less sweet. The ice coffee served to us was aromatic, creamy, with a just-nice sweetness level. After taking the first sip of coffee, the only word that came out from out mouths were .. " Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh". Our sleepy, oxygen deficient minds were zapped awake.

Demona: We were busy reading the day's newspapers when the toast bread came. The kind owner, Mr. Byron who noticed us leaving the toast bread aside, came over to our table and advised us to start eating the bread before it got cold. We appreciated his kind gesture and immediately started eating.

I am one of those who prefers my toast bread properly spread with butter and kaya, rather than a huge slab of butter stuck in the middle of it. If I do see it, I would spread it on my own and remove the excess.

Old habits die hard. I opened up the sandwiched layer to check for slabs of butter. To my surprise, the bread was nicely spread with butter and thoroughly mixed with kaya. Yippeeeeeeee!!!

Mr. B also happily told us how his kaya is freshly made everyday in his cafe. The kaya was not too sweet, creamy, and definitely tasted home made alright. I showed my sticky crumb-filled smile to Dogma. SYOK NYA!

Demona: Dogma swallowed down the 2 eggs. I thought the watery part was a bit strange though. Don't think I saw many half boiled eggs with a water layer on them. After finishing off the last spoonful, Dogma was now extra energy powered by 2 protein boosted eggs!

Demona: Another signature food from Good Morning Nanyang is its scones. We also ordered one to try it out. The scone was a bit dry, hints of flour taste was still detected in the scone. Addition of the jam and butter did great on the scone. Mr. B definitely has characters of a great eatery owner. We were honest about our opinions on GMN's food, and told him that the scone was a bit dry and the flour taste was a bit strong. Instead of being defensive, he actually listened to our comments and said to look into ways to make their scones more moist.

Verdict: A hearty breakfast meal, in a cozy, comfortable environment with a warm, friendly service up from the owner itself down to the waitresses. All of these goodness wrapped up in a bill receipt of less than SGD 5. What more to say?

Terra Red Bliss@Dogma's Crib

Demona: Dogma himself can't help being a "Si Lai" (housewife aunty material), when he stumbled upon "Only SGD 3.25 from 22-25 April!" for all Terra chips flavours in Cold Storage. The "kiasu-ism" in him just popped out instantaneously and in no time, he was happily strolling back home with 4 packs of Terra chips.

Our routine "chipping" session usually starts from 10 pm onwards. Shows how much of TLC which we have for our little cute folding flabbies. This time, we opened the potato chips with olive oil, sun dried tomatoes and balsamic vinegar flavour.

Demona: I gotta' admit, Terra chips do kick potato's butt! This Terra chip flavour spells thumbs up! I could taste the sweet sourish tomato flavour on the tip of my tongue itself, and small tiny orange reddish tomato flakes were seen on the chips' surface. Mild smell and taste of vinegar was also detected as well. I was glad that they weren't as pungent as Dogma's "old socks" vinegar drink.

The Terra manufacturer is very distinct and precise on their flavours. You can really differentiate the flavours as written on the packaging itself. Amazing job with the potato chips, you guys!

Piluna Primitivo 2006 (zinfandel)

Castello Monaci PILUNA Primitivo Salento Puglia 2006 (

Attached are the review from Wine Advocate on this wine:
The 2006 Primitivo Piluna is a wine of uncommon beauty. This vibrant, pure red shimmers on the palate with layers of dark cherries, sweet herbs, licorice and tobacco. It offers outstanding length and terrific balance. Readers who haven?t discovered Primitivo owe it to themselves to do so. This is a great starting point.
90 POINTS - WINE ADVOCATE

Dogma's Take
Well, Primitivo has similar DNA to Zinfandel, and i got this bottle at 29sgd after reading the reviews. On the nose there are dark ripe fruits, and pronounced sweetness with licorice. The tobacco/leather only come up after 2-3 hours but sweetness on the nose dominates. However, i find it lacking in structure on the palate and it kinda disintegrated after a few hours. Length was not outstanding.
The verdict: A good effort wine but not something to rejoice about. I find it challenging to finish the bottle with Demona.

San Pellegrino Shootout

Demona and me has been a fan of sparkling water for some time. Some may ask why and we will tell you the reason.

Post dinner , demona/dogma craving for some chilled beer or a nice red wine..
as thrifty as ever, both switch on their mental calculator and started picit picit.
Demona: 1 beer = 3-5SGD + getting fatty with many calories. 1 wine = 30SGD -120SGD Plus get lobstery (flushed face)
Dogma: 1 beer = fatty + many calories. 1 wine = 50sgd to 150sgd ( the difference in cost coz dogma always reveal the imaginary lower end of the wine price to demona) plus bad liver.

Demona + Dogma: 1 sparkling water = 3SGD = refreshing taste + cleansing feeling + no calories..YEY!!!

We both enjoyed the Saint Perrier Sparkling water with Lemon zest very much and today we went further by trying some flavoured sparkling water from San Pellegrino.

They are quite natural in taste but did not really set a deep impression on us.
Limonita: Sparkling water with 12% of pure Lemon juice. Well Demona find it very similar to Orangina ( but hey, one is Orange the other is Lemon?) and i tend to agree with her. Packing a good punch of lemon zest in it with some bitter ending. Ok la, but its kinda too sweet for my liking. I very much prefer a super sour lemon juice..
Chinotto: This is damn funky. Made from Chinotto fruit and some herbs, the juice is outright medicinal and weird. Tasted like some sweetened root of some plant, bordering on Sarsi. Demona took a sip and left me the rest. Ok la, yamseng, i drink it all up. I doubt this will be popular among the consumers

Arancita: We did not took picture of this but it tasted like an Orange peel juice (or some rather say, the white orange skin). A more dense bitterness compared to limonita with zesty orange juice. Not too bad but not great either. Still a tad too sweet..
