Piluna Primitivo 2006 (zinfandel)

Castello Monaci PILUNA Primitivo Salento Puglia 2006 (

Attached are the review from Wine Advocate on this wine:
The 2006 Primitivo Piluna is a wine of uncommon beauty. This vibrant, pure red shimmers on the palate with layers of dark cherries, sweet herbs, licorice and tobacco. It offers outstanding length and terrific balance. Readers who haven?t discovered Primitivo owe it to themselves to do so. This is a great starting point.
90 POINTS - WINE ADVOCATE

Dogma's Take
Well, Primitivo has similar DNA to Zinfandel, and i got this bottle at 29sgd after reading the reviews. On the nose there are dark ripe fruits, and pronounced sweetness with licorice. The tobacco/leather only come up after 2-3 hours but sweetness on the nose dominates. However, i find it lacking in structure on the palate and it kinda disintegrated after a few hours. Length was not outstanding.
The verdict: A good effort wine but not something to rejoice about. I find it challenging to finish the bottle with Demona.
