Carbohydate Binge@Four Leaves

Demona: Anchorpoint is mine, and Aileen's favourite hangout point during days when we have no where else to go but too lazy to go anywhere further too. Besides the fact that is near home, it is also the one and only FULL-ON-PURELY outlet shopping mall. Thus, brands like Charles&Keith, Giordano, G2K etc are at a damn good price alright. C&K is also constantly swarmed by fashionally maddened ladies, who could not resist overspending shoes and bags that they don't truly need, but at that moment psycho-ed themselves to think that they need 'em. Myself, a culprit of it too, although for a girl, I am considered fashionally underbudget.

*wacks Dogma*

Demona: RIGHHHHHHT, Dogma? :)

SGD 11.90 for a pair of heels?? How to find?? (even if I want to bring in the RM exchange rate).

Ok, crap. I'm totally getting off track here alright.

For those who knows me well, they know besides my love for chillies, I pledge my heart to forever self-struck in love with sinfully starchy, carbohydrate power packed, sugary sweetness pastries, buns, bread too.

On some shamefully desperate days, I could go on every meal with ... buns.. toast bread with any spread.. pastries. Friends of mine, especially testosterone oriented ones who survive on rice, meat.. macho staple foodie stuffs, sometimes worry for me bizarre eating habits.

This one particular night, was *sigh*..... a full-on carbohydrate binge (rate was accelerated even more after a few extra laps on top of my routine 1 km length swim). Calories "kau kau" piled back on alright. Hahaha. Who cares, until my skirts and pants get a little too tight again.

Demona: I stopped to scout pastries from Four Leaves because I found their "Little Bite Size Pastries" promotion, hard to resist! One costs, SGD 0.85, however if you choose four, you will pay a total of SGD 2.80. Discounted SGD 0.15. Best part of it, you could choose from any combination of these cute, tiny, lil' buggers!

SLURPSSSSSSS.

Demona: Aileen was craving for a.. CHOCOLATE BROWNIE baby slice. The brownie was actually fairly nice. It was moist, superrrr chocolate-y and not too sweet either. The walnut content was a lil' "kiam siap" though. I think my home made brownies still win the trophy
(Laughs out loud with no awareness to even flight a slight bit of shame)

nDemona: Like yin and yang, coffee and tea, nasi lemak and sambal ikan bilis, char siew and siew yok rice, thosai telur and spicy chutney, sweet pastries must also be in balance with some savoury ones also. I chose a mayonaise sausage bun.

This was average, as with every mayonaise sausage buns there are outside. I've been eating this bun my whole life, and they look the same, taste the same (either bun is too soft, or too hard, lack of taste, or the sausage is too soggy, or too hard, or too oily, or all of the above). Just that now, they make it look cuter, smaller, prettier. Package change, taste stays same. *yawns*

My future bakery, I would like to revamp this sausage bun into something, new, cool, exciting and tastes gooooooood!

Demona: This was a raisin cross bun. It was actually quite nice, the taste I mean. The only downside was that the bun had already soften. After all, it was almost 8pm when I came over here to eat. The hot and humid weather of our country just won't permit us to take a nice, crunchy, crispy bite of freshly baked pastries and bread however air and moisture tight these bakers want to keep their shop to be.

Demona: This was my favourite! Coffee bun! The top part had some crumbly crunchy bits of peanuts and baked cream, the bun filled with tiny swirls of chocolate and .... inside... surprise! Creamy coffee cream.. mmmmmmmmmm...

Best of all.. they all came in baby bite size pieces! You can have a lil' of everything in half the fullness, half the calories, half the sin! I guess, sorta' like the western way of "dim sum". However, don't underestimate these small, small, dwarfs....I was full to the brim after I had my last bite of everything! BURPS.

Bin Pao Bin.

Yam chao session@Ice Cold Beer

Demona: My colleague, IL, is a regular kaki of Ice Cold Beer (ICB). Since ICB is conveniently located nearby his main area of coverage, he's developed the liking of heading over here after a stressful, hard day at work, gulping down icey cold beer at the bar, and .... free eye washing of pretty OLs who also head over here for the very same reason too. (Wife of IL, oops! Don't worry, he is faithful to you)

We decided to join him for a change this time, from his usual drink-beer-alone nights, since he mentioned that the chicken wings and pizzas are delicious here.. and most importantly, drinks are cheap during happy hours!

Demona: Oooooh lah lah. He was right. This thin crusted pizza was well baked and coated with golden brown baked melting mozarella, and filled with chunky sweet, sour, zesty tomato slices and fairly fresh tasting prawns, ending with a nice touch of italian herbs sprinkles. SGD 17.

Dogma, let's bake pizza once i'm back! Then we open a bottle of wine from your collection, and laze on the couch watching fake dvds. :)

Demona: This was the prawn paste fried chicken wings. The size of 'em were actually slightly bigger than the regular ones that we see in most places. The deep fried outer skins were crunchy, crumbling in our mouth and sinking in your teeth into tender, succulent chicken meat. The disappointment however, was that the taste of the prawn paste was almost missing. If I'd never knew its flavour, I would have thought that these were normal, plain deep fried chicken wings.
SGD 16.
Demona: Nevertheless, pizzas and chicken wings, never go wrong with beer. *bite*chew*ngaw* chicken wings.... *slurps* icey cold hoegaarden = blisssssssss.

The place was packed as it was a Friday night, and extremely noisy. We had to shout our lungs out to get our messages across to one another. I'd still prefer Wala Wala, since I'm an avid music fan, who particularly loves acoustic music. Happy hour beers, with fairly good chicken wings and pizzas also... and nearrrrrrr home. Gosh I'm so gonna' miss this place. :(

Jam fight!@Demona's home

Demona: Tonight's dinner was one of those...." bored-hungry but do not know what to eat-too lazy to buy or cook food-i'm too tired-i'm still broke" dinners.

Let's settle this with......... good olde' carbs!

A healthy loaf of wholemeal bread and a good spread to go along with.

So happens... I've got two types of jam on hand.

Demona: Looks like there'll be war here tonight! Blood shed will smear the night!

Jam warrior 1:
Demona: I got this cute lil' bottle of jam from White Bait and Kale, when I attended one of their baking classes (Which was so much fun! And my.. my.. I learnt a kick-ass gingerbread spiced cake from there). This jam, along with a gingerbread man cookie was WB&K's door gift.

Jam warrior 1:
"You can taste my powerful squashed, juicy sweet blueberry bits! "
"Feel the fire, feel the heat, from my silent weapon.. port!"

Jam warrior 2:

Demona: Jams ain't cheap in Malaysia. The really good ones are dressed with shiny, golden price tags. The horrible taste, almost unedible ones are dirt cheap.. but yeah, one teaspoonful and you can't go on no more. Then, there are those in-between ones, which are not bad.. but you won't get the good kick from them either.

This was my first time buying Tamara, costing almost RM 7.

Jam warrior 2:

"Although my appearance may seem a lil' watery..look closely, and you could see the squashed berries, cherries and strawberries in me!"
"Look at my size... you're like an ant to me!"

Demona: Who wins the war?

............................................

jeng jeng jeng jeng.

TAMARA!!!!!
Despite being a bit watery, the sweetness was just nice, plus you could still chew on lil' bits and pieces of the fruits. Just like what it was mentioned on the bottle. Something something German.. with a big 50% 'de fruits'. I'm assuming it meant 50% more fruits in it.

The posh looking blueberry port jam, was a major disappointment for me. Although its packaging gave it an impression of a high end brand of a jam, its taste spoke otherwise. I couldn't taste much of the berries flavour and the port was overwhelming the whole package. Its heat killed the fruit flavour. It was as if, I poured port itself on my bread. I tried stirring the jam in the bottle, wondering if the sweetness was at the bottom, but no difference was made.

All in all......

So I guess, in-between jams rock too!

Ren Ren Prawn Noodles and Wan Tan Mee@Joo Chiat road

Demona: Ren Ren Prawn Prawn Noodie Noodah, Ren Ren Wan Wan Tan Tan Noodie Noodah. Creativity "flows" across these foodie names. It was one late afternoon and JW and I were drowning in starvation and the burning midday heat. We were chasing our asses off for sales until we've forgotten about our tiny tummies "growling" out to their sweaty, tired, worn out owners.

Ren Ren was a down right stumble upon, type of food venturing. We were hungry, aimless and basically this shop was saying hello to us in plain sight.

Demona: The seemingly seafood addict, JW ordered a bowl of prawn noodles. According to him, the prawn noodles were average, and Beach Road's giant prawn noodles was still proudly standing as number 1 spot in his lil' prawnie list.

Demona: I, on the other hand, like prawning (fishing them at Bishan), but ain't a giant fan of prawn noodles cooked in this manner. The prawn noodles in KL are somewhat very different, and I am much more accustomed to that style. They do not boast on the size of the prawns, but more on the thickness and spiciness of the soup. Thus, you could see a vast dense deepened reddish colour soup instead of a much more clear broth over here.

Thus, I chose wan tan noodles instead. Surprisingly, it was really quite delicious. The char siew slices were quite lean, and thankfully, its appearance wasn't due to fake colouring unlike those that we get from many other stalls around. This aspect, is one of my biggest turn offs from a wan tan noodle. Secondly, the noodles did not come in a giant clump, like a string ball trying to stuff itself down a cat's throat, which was another big phew phew.

Demona: JW ordered these prawn " bak kian". Yummmmyyyyyyyyyy.. ! What would have been better if there was a sip of icey, cold mug of konig right after chewing these lil' ball like bak kians.

Technically, we could have.

If we want to meet our doctors later, in a drunkened, high, alcoholic breath-like state. Maybe this outrageous manner could get us some sales haha.

Demona: Our meal only cost us around SGD 10, fairly cheap alright. We ain't complaining! Good thing about it's that it is situated across my church. This would be an interesting place to let Mr Dogma have a lil' taste whenever he comes down, or lunch after Sunday's service.
