Dogma craved Bak Kut Teh lunch@Zheng Jia Restaurant, Bandar Puchong Jaya

Demona: "What should we have for lunch?.... Wan tan mee? Chicken rice?"
Dogma : " Ba Kut Teh.........."
Demona: "Or indian food..? Thosai? Nasi Kandar?"
Dogma : "Ba Kut Teh.........."

Demona: I stared at Dogma. His eyes, enlarged, unmoved, with piercing stares. I turned to look, following the direction of his view. Just ahead, I saw Zheng Jia, a restaurant specialising in Ba Kut Teh. Then, I turned back and looked at him again.

Dogma : "Ba Kut Teh........."

Demona: I was stunned for a moment there, seeing how obsessed one could get over food. To prevent any unwanted bloodshed, I quickly agreed to his suggestion.

Demona :" Err... ok ok..... good boy, Ba Kut Teh it is ok? "

Demona: A must-have sidekick dish to go along with the herbal, spicy, porky ba kut soup. Sadly, the "yaocharkuey" was pre-deep fried. The hot, cruchiness of its outer skin was entirely gone. Even though they were dipped into the hot BKT soup... man... the whole oohlala-yummy-high-estatic like feeling just ain't there.

Soggy YCKs are such no-nos.

Demona: The soup was fairly enjoyable. Quite peppery alright, sorta' reminds me of Singapore's rendition of BKT. Meat's a lil' too fatty for my liking, therefore I'm almost sure that Dogma's craving was fully filled. I still preferred Klang's one. Any one's got other great Klang Valley BKT suggestions?
Demona: The vinegar pork ain't bad either. The soup's got a soury, salty, sweet combi action going on. We surely had one, well fed, chubby, fatty pig to eat today. Snipped, snapped, chopped, cut chewy fatty porky parts and dumped 'em into his plate.

Demona: Price wise... I had to admit, it surprised me. I was expecting RM15-RM20/ pax pricing. But.. hey, with a pot of tea, lousy YCK and two pots of porky BKT for RM22/2 pax...hmmmm.. fairly reasonable. Zheng Jia proves to be a place for people who are tightening belts, burnt holes in pockets, and listening to their notti tongues, strongly stimulating their brains to crave for BKT.

Demona's Departure Breakfast Treat@Dogma's crib, KL

Demona: Kayu-Pokok-like Dogma was an angel today. Before my departure back to Singapore, he "SACRIFICED" his morning sleep, draggggggg-ed himself out of his little dreamzone, slogged his way down the stairs and headed into the kitchen to make some warm, hearty breakfast!

(although Dogmama prepacked all these lovely dishes for him, and they were nicely stored in the freezer, so Dogma's job was to de-frost 'em and left the rest of the work to my tiny portable oven. But.. oh well.. breakfast served in bed, oh wait.. in couch I mean, this lady here ain't complaining!)

Demona: Thick, chunky slices of beef nicely tucked in between to slices of white bread toasted till the edges were sealed. The beef slices were tender, well marinated with some chinese spices I suppose, as its taste gave me an Oriental feel to it. His mama's really one good cook also. Totally different style from my mom's. I think every living person on this earth will always brag about his/her mother's out-of-this-world delicious cooking, eh? :)

Demona: Dogmama's culinary skills ain't just limited to Taiwanese dishes. It spreads around the globe! She went "An Yong Hai Sei Yo" in her cooking too! The two side dishes behind were actually her home made kim chi. No wonder Dogma kept mentioning how "healthy" he looked when he was a kid. THIS: Dogmama's great cooking, I am almost fairly, quite, 99.999999 % sure was the main reason why.

Dogma's wine

Ogier Cotes Du Rhone Heritage 2006:

Bought this from Midvalley Bottles & Bottles some time ago.. opened up and you get a powerful fruit, red berry note on the nose. On the palate it was a muscular as well compared to most cotes du rhone. Very big and grenached for my liking. Things got more balanced after 1hr of aerations. You get some bitter note at the end palate. at RM100, pretty ok la but not a rebuy for me. I prefer more elegant style wines.

Lawson Hills Pinot Noir, 2006 Marlborough.

this is a very good value for money new world pinot. Silky, light and dancing on the palate, slowing gliding down your throat... The nose did not offer much. only some light cherry and earth after some time. However, the palate is clean.. Great buy at this pricepoint (SGD40)

Home made prawn crackers@Demona's mama

Demona: No one makes better prawn crackers than me mama's! Anyone wants to take orders? haha. Actually I rather not. The process of making these lil' crackers right from scratch really roughen her hands and makes them sore. I'm sorry guys! Best-est prawn crackers ever! and only Chuah and Chuah clan alone can have this priviledge... and of course, occasionally others who are around me when me mama makes me some. *winks* Dogma, eh? I remembered you chomping down these lil' cracker jagger goodies :)

Mommy's crackers come in two flavours, original and spicy ones. I believe I've posted on this once a long, long while ago. But, who cares :) I never get bored of telling people about how great my mom and her culinary skills are!

Painstaking queue CNY Lim Chee Guan Bak Kua@Chinatown

Demona's job often require her to be Full Time Food Getter/butler and part time Sales Person.
Her job in Singapore would require her to queue a good 4 hours during CNY to grab some sinfully greasy and meaty Bak Kua from Lim Chee Guan..
I really wonder who invented the custom of eating bakkua during CNY....
It just so weird that you have to queue 4 hours to buy exorbitantly priced bakkua during CNY when the same stuff could have been bought during normal days at half the price minus the queue...
Probably there is some truth in the old saying that. the longer the queue, the better the taste...so you gotta wait for the long queue to occur during CNY before you get the great taste of Lim Chee Guan..

This piece of meat from a dead carcass, toook Demona 4 hours, under the sweltering tropical weather, amidst throngs of Kiasu, fierce Singaporeans to get it for a doctor (her customer)...

Did Demona told you that you smuggled 100gm from every 1Kg she bought?..On company account i tell u !

HEHE..
Tasty Lim Chee Guan Bak Kua-- 4 hours of waiting time, melted cosmetic and @$40/Kg
Free Lim Chee Guan Bak Kua on company account--Pricesless

Olde' skool breakfast@Prima Restaurant, Taipingtown

Every trip back to our cozy warm and humid home town, Taiping, has always bring back a special heart warming feeling to both Demona and Dogma... One of the more popular kopitiam in Taiping recently is the Prima Restaurant near the local municipal building.

Always packed, yet not with the best kopi or food around.... but it just seem natural to be here whenever you are back in taiping....
Chill out spot u might call it.

Pictured here are the Wan Tan Mee and Nasi Lemak....
Greasy, meaty, and packed with a ton of homely flavour...
MMM I miss Taiping!

PS: THe sweet Limonata from San Pellegrino..Sparking lemon juice... thou i find the San Pellegrino sparkling fruit beverage series a tad on the too sweet side.... some of their flavours are ourright funky flavoured...

New Branch Nasi Ayam Penyet Testing@Novena Square 2

Demona: It was time for Dogma to depart back to Kayel, via our favourite First Coach at Novena Square. Looking at the time (530pm), both of us decided to just stuff more food into our tummies, with the excuse of "Let's have an early dinner! No more supper!" (Yeah right..)

We walked and walked and walked around this cozy lil' mall sniffing out for food.. and gosh, we stumbled upon a new Ayam Penyet Ria branch! Almost invisible in plain sight, hidden within the gigantic electrical store.

Woo hoo! There's no more need to head all the way into the hustle and bustle of Orchard area for some good olde' flattened chicken rice.

Demona: Whoopsie. I forgot to mention that our lunch was only 2 hours earlier. *burps out loud* We weren't entirely hungry.. just.. GREEDY. Besides itching for some yummy nasi ayam penyet, the patrons seated on the table next to ours, busily scooping up some delicious warm peanut sauce with these sinful, crunchy, flavourful Indon chips definitely caught our TGWG eyes, ... and TGWG tummy juices.

Kiasu-ness made us greedily ordered one plate too. Which was .. hellllllll alotta' chips, with hellllll alotta vegetables and helllllll lotta peanut sauce. Gosh. This meal itself, was already enough for two.

The chips did bring a little disappointment to us. I think that they were prepared for quite some time ago, and had poor storage conditions. Some were a little soft, and soggy. Bargh. Thankfully, peanut sauce came in to save the poor chips' day.

Demona: Here comes.. our crunchy-on-the-outside-but-tender-on-the-inside AYAM PENYETIE! Sure, the chicken was marinated with spices a little too spicy for Dogma's sweatbuds to handle.. not to mention its kungfu pow wow kick ass sambal of theirs, but mmmmmmmmm....... it's sweaty-wipey-good!

The chicken portion did seem a little smaller this time. (Economic downturn, chicken size shrink?), but taste wise was pretty much the same as the one in Lucky Plaza.

The huge mistake that we did this time was ordering the gado gado along with the nasi penyet. These ain't things which you could down easily after a full fledge lunch 2 hours before. We both had to unbutton our pants and rub our bellies filled with ayam penyet and potato chips swimming around inside.

Dogma went on the bus at 630 pm, and I headed back home. We went separate ways, but we both zonked out soon afterwards. It is the similar after-nasi-kandar effect that struck us.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Goodbye Tea@Kuriya, Raffles Link

Another goood bye tea before Dogma Left Singapore on his recent trip to Singapore.
Always the first to spot a good deal, Dogma brought me to this lil japanese restaurant at the basement of City Hall. Looks outrageously classy from the outside, Kuriya now sports a good value $6 dollars Tea session ( a combo of Dessert ranging from $8 - $10 plus a glass drink coffee/tea/sobatea).. Excellent for value, we were however dismayed that they increased the cost by about 60cents since 2 months ago...
a Typical sign of economics 101...

When demands goes up,, the price goes up as well!

We shared a plate of dessert combo plate, with green tea jelly + red bead paste, vanila icecream + mixed fruits...
The green tea jelly was a tad bland but dogma will swallow anything green with green tea.

to go along with teh dessert is a cup of hot coffeee.

PHEET PHEET<
A good value tea session at centre of town....
You just love Recession dont you!

Sun Biscuits Courtesy of Mike, from Taiwan!

We had this little sunny buggers courtesy of our good friend Mike from Taiwan....It was a real pleasure and blessing meeting him first at work then at Zion Church Singapore. Hope he is doing well in Taiwan now......

Some nice packaging by the Guru of Marketing in Taiwan. The wordings says 3 low 2 high, shoudl be some extra nutritional boost in the Sun Biscuits
putting the health conscious aside, the Sun biscuit was moist in the inside and fluffy flakes on the outside. Mildly sweet and milk.... mmm mmm mmm, Demona blot out the Suns within hours after receiving it from Mike. I managed only to have 2 pieces :(

German Kirsch Chocolates

Had this after church during the fellowship session. Some kind souls brought back bunch of this deliciously looking Kirsch Chocolate from Germany.

If any of you wonder what is Kirsch, let this wiki-note kills your curiosity cat!

Kirschwasser (pronounced /KIRSH-VAHS-ər/, German for “cherry water”) is a clear, colorless fruit brandy traditionally made from double distillation of morellos, a dark-colored cultivar of the sour cherry. However, the beverage is now being made from other kinds of cherries as well.

The cherries are fermented complete (i.e., along with their stones).[1]

Ok, let us now talk about the taste...
The taste.... hmmm is not great. HAHA
The yellowish thing taste like grated coconut starch, while the dark stuff are just dark chocolates (DUH!)...and it has a tinge of sweet liquor taste from the kirsch..

Overall, not something that Alcohol loving Dogma crave very much about nor was it sinfully exciting enough for chocoholic Demona to gobble down after church service.

Verdict: A good exposure for these 2 poor Malaysian, who never travelled to Germany (ok, Dogma spend a day at Cologne/Bohn before) on Kirsh Chocolate.
