Riecine La Gioia 1997

I had bought this Tuscan Riecine La Giola 1997 (Sangiovese based Super Tuscan blend) direct from Italy couple months back and decided to pop it recently.

The wine is rated a massive 95pointer Winespectator:
Dark ruby red color. Very rich and concentrated on the nose, with masses of plum, toasty oak and blackberry. Full-bodied, with dense fruit and velvety tannins. Very, very fruity. Needs time to open.--1997 Italian blind retrospective. Best after 2009. 1,025 cases made.

Dogma's note:
The nose is full of cherry, cassis and plums. At age 11, the wine still has some distance to go but probably near it's peak as the balance of fruit/acid were right. Some racy tannin in the mid palate with reduced fruit. Long finish and gives a good lift at end palate. Superb with pasta as the wine is able to cut thru. 95 pointer? dun think so but its definitely a solid 90-92pointer.
