Tinto Pesquera 1997@97SGD
Stephen TAnzer's note in 1999: Full ruby-red. Blackberry, cassis, sweet butter, vanilla and a hint of mint on the slightly floral nose. Rich, sweet entry, then lovely sweetness and vinosity on the palate. Not as round as a riper-year Pesquera but has just enough flesh to buffer its acids. Finishes quite long, with a bit of unresolved acidity and notes of bitter chocolate and espresso”. Stephen Tanzer’s, International Wine Cellar, November/December 1999
My note in 2008:
Glorious nose of rich, perfumed cigar box, black fruits, leather, tobacco. The nose just goes on and on and on.... Excelllent, better nose (more harmonious, elegant ) than the 1999/1997 Cims De porerra. However, the palate did not followup with the wonderful nose. Finish was short. Palate was medium bodied, some blackfruits, mocha and velvety tannins.
Bodegas Alion 1998 @98SGD
WS90: This muscular red offers coffee, mineral and plum flavors wrapped in a blanket of ripe but firm tannins. Not giving much now, but it has concentration and balance, and it should age well. Best after 2004. 19,500 cases made.
My note: Nose was not as pronounced as Pesquera Tinto, but offer typical spanish nose of cedar, cigarbox nad some leather. A tad watery/hollow on the palate. Short finish. nothing to shout about.
Catena Alta Chardonnay 2004@47sgd
My Note:
Overoak bodied. Very new world, american chardonay style. Big. Some citrus and lemon on the palate. No elegance. Dump.
Dampierre Cuvee des Ambassadeurs Premier Cru Champagne@97
Winemaker's note:This exceptional blend is composed of the great Chardonnay grape from the Cote des Blancs villages of Avize Cramant and Mesnil-sur-Oger (50%), and of the noble black Pinot Noirs from Bouzy, Ambonnay and Cumieres in the Montagne de Reims (50%).Fine, long-lasting mousse. Full, harmonious, faultless colour. Fine bouquet, hint of Pinot Noirs, long lasting aroma. Perfectly balanced, rounded flavour, not aggressive. A clean fresh finish. A very elegant delicate wine
My note: The mousse is big, effervescent, and persistent. Bubbles is fine but not persistent. Nose of intense citrus with toastiness and brioche over it. After much aeration and warming up, not much to offer still compared to vintage champs. Quite citrus and steely in the mouth. Similar style to Moet but more intense body. OK champagne.
